Guild Wars 2 – On Criticism and the need for the holy trinity gone.
So, after playing Guild Wars 2 for a few weeks, I have some initial comments about how the game is very different than most other games that are played online. There is World V World PVP and there are no separate factions. The character customization is really fun (to the point where I can sit there for about 45 minutes adjusting my characters, height, lips, nose etc) and doesn’t rely on the typical character types. There is no “Tank, DPS, and Healer” classes, everyone fills a certain role and support others depending on what you focus your character on. Currently, I play a Sylvari Elementalist, my primary element is fire. I have found that in most situations Fire and Water are the most handy. I can switch between attunements (Fire, Water, Air, Earth) and can pretty much deal damage and provide support. My profession generally wears a light armor.
The main things I have found that people have gotten stuck on and expect, are “what kind of class are you all needing?” Any. Some fail to understand the complexities of battles, and combos etc. I’m currently sitting at level 47 and have yet to understand the complexities of when I lay down a certain kind of attack it can affect others attacks. The whole idea is really neat.
The other part that I really like so far is that where SWTOR fell short, the characters story lines definitely change based on the path that you choose. Your responses change the whole line of quests you are taken on for your personal story. I haven’t played through the story line enough to decide what the downsides are other than getting used to the play type will take some time, you’re limited to 5 character slots unless you purchase more, the thing to keep in mind is that you purchase the game and never HAVE to pay anything and just keep moving on. You can trade gold for gems, or gems for gold and purchase gems with real live money. There really isn’t an end game to this game. It doesn’t matter if you’re 45 and your friend is 25 and needs help. You can go to his/her area and the area will scale you down to the area that you’re in. I am currently really enjoying the game and will continue to play until I lose interest. So far, my investment in the game has really paid off. Good job arena net.
